Love is…

Throughout history people have expressed notions of love in many different ways. Here’s a selection of representations of love in the Museum’s collection.

This painting from India depicts lovers playing with fireworks. Painted on paper, c. 1800.    This work titled 'The Lover's Retreat' depicts two lovers seated under a tree holding hands. Hand-coloured mezzotint with some etching, 1796.
